Motion graphics is the one category where the subject is almost beside the point. What you are specifying is a system: how many elements, what they do, in what order, and how they accelerate. Get the timing language right and a plain circle reads as professional design; get it wrong and an elaborate scene reads as a screensaver.

Video models respond unusually well to this because the instructions are mechanical rather than aesthetic. "Three bars rise in sequence, each easing out, 0.2s apart" is a specification a model can execute. "Dynamic motion graphics" is not — it has no elements, no order, and no clock.

The prompts below are tested with their real outputs. Notice how many of them state a loop condition, and how few of them describe a scene.

How to write Motion Graphics prompts

  1. 1Count your elements out loud: "four rounded rectangles", "a single ring", "twelve dots on a grid". Unspecified counts are the main reason motion graphics outputs look noisy.
  2. 2Name the easing, not just the move. "Snaps in fast then settles" and "drifts in at constant speed" are different animations, and models distinguish them reliably.
  3. 3State the order and the stagger: "left to right, each element 0.15s after the previous". Sequenced motion is what separates designed movement from everything moving at once.
  4. 4Ask for a seamless loop explicitly if you want one, and say what returns to its start position. Loops are a constraint the model will honor only when told.
  5. 5Keep the palette to two or three flat colors and a solid background. Motion graphics reads as intentional partly because it refuses texture — gradients and photographic detail fight the shapes.

How do I prompt for motion graphics instead of a video clip?

Describe a system rather than a scene: element count, their shapes, the order they animate in, the easing, and the background. Avoid camera language entirely — motion graphics moves the objects, not the viewer.

Can AI models make seamless loops?

Often yes, but only when you ask. Say "seamless loop, ends exactly where it begins" and name the property that must return to its start — position, rotation, or scale. Without that instruction the model has no reason to close the cycle.

What makes motion graphics look professional rather than generic?

Restraint and timing. A small number of elements, a flat palette, staggered entrances, and easing that has a fast start or a soft landing. Complexity is what makes generated motion look amateur, not what makes it look designed.
